Unknown author (2006-01-26): wow... microsoft is using png. how innovative. I love how ms introduces pre-existing technologies currently implemented in open-source software, and brands it as a 'feature'.
Unknown author (2006-01-31): a) it's good that ms is using png because that increases the popularity of that open-source project. would you rather microsoft reinvent the technology except in a proprietary format? b) how is it not a 'feature'? it wasn't present in previous versions of windows and now it is... what would make you happy? to not mention it at all and silently change the icon format?
Unknown author (2006-02-05): Agreed, guy above me. It is a feature, and the guy he responded to is an idiot :)
Unknown author (2006-02-09): Idiot guy is obviously a MS hater.
Unknown author (2006-02-16): wooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Unknown author (2006-02-23): Open source code is the best...Mac rules! That is why MS is loosing more market share every day! (Oh, yeah; they are gaining market share while Mac OS and open source OSs are the domain of sewer rats everywhere!)
Unknown author (2006-02-23): Pointing out that Microsoft hasn't done anything truly innovative and promoting open-source software doesn't make me an idiot guy or a sewer rat! You bunch of Microsoft loving loosers!!!
Unknown author (2006-02-27): i still think that they cant hold a candle to mac
Unknown author (2006-03-02): Now how do you actually compile these into a program? Visual Studio (including 2005) complains icons with an embedded PNG image aren't valid.
Vlasta (2006-03-03): Here is a preliminary info about compiling Vista icons. Hope it helps.
Unknown author (2006-03-03): GOOOOOBLEGOP
Unknown author (2006-03-03): NERDS!
Unknown author (2006-03-10): "wow... microsoft is using png. how innovative. I love how ms introduces pre-existing technologies currently implemented in open-source software, and brands it as a 'feature'."
-- its called marketing, and obviously it works or bill gates wouldn't be so freakin rich
Unknown author (2006-03-24): www.softwarebase.net vista icons are on here
Unknown author (2006-04-06): Bla bla bla...
Mac Os X for ever...
By V3niX
Unknown author (2006-04-12): gnome supports svg-scalable icons... of any size!!! Ouch... sorry, this was a feature two years old now... so having icons with 12 images in it is not very impressive.
PLeyava (2006-04-15): Oh please, if Apple is "so good" as some people say it is, then why does LESS than 9% of the WORLDS POPULATION use it? Yeah, Microsoft Windows is used by OVER 90% of the world. Apple sucks period, go Microsoft! I cannot wait 'till Vista comes out!!!
Unknown author (2006-04-25): IRIX LIVES

Unknown author (2006-04-28): In the house, y'all... In the house, y'all... I'm Run DMC I turn it out, y'all.
Unknown author (2006-04-30): PLeyava don't be an idiot. 90% of the people on the freeway have no clue how to drive, what's your point.
Oh, I see, 9/10 people follow the masses like sheep. GG.
Unknown author (2006-05-17): 90% of the people on the free way have no clue how to drive? Pfft, how insightful. I wonder who gave this kid an internet connection.
Unknown author (2006-06-08):
Yeah, Microsoft Windows is used by OVER 90% of the world. Apple sucks period, go Microsoft! I cannot wait 'till Vista comes out!!!
Why, are you mad? Anyway they wouldn't touch SVG with a barge pole, they would use there own VML.
Unknown author (2006-06-25): LOL, you guys are a riot. Unknown author on April 12, said Gnome. Not Apple. Gnome is Linux. Not only the free way, but the best way to go! Windows is and always will be a resource hog. I mean the article here says that if available it takes "advantage" of 256x256 icons. As cool as hi rez icons can be. I wouldn't want to HAVE to use them when available. Try opensource KDE with Kubuntu, that's the way to go!
PS KDE also linux, not Apple. LOL!
Unknown author (2006-06-27): Please stop being morons, for the sake of EVERYONE invovled. Every operating system has their good aspects to it, and bad aspects to it. Stop defending everything one OS - they give you the ability to use a computer, not keep you alive.
Unknown author (2006-06-30): Another insightful load of comments.
Unknown author (2006-06-30): Quote: "they give you the ability to use a computer, not keep you alive."
Well my mum died because a Windows XP got a virus, and she was so, like pissed, that she died of a heart attack! So you're wrong, Linux does keep people alive, or at least decrease the risk of heart attacks.
But anyway, even so am sticking with Windows, 'cos it's the best and Bill Gates has really nice glasses and I love Windows XP, it's t3h w1n!
Unknown author (2006-06-30): Oh and I have a Gnome, but it doesn't have SVG(?!) it just sits by the pond in my garden.
Unknown author (2006-06-30): And Macs suxX0r, I've never used one, but they're still rubbish, 'cos my brother said so and he's part of the Windows fan club!
Unknown author (2006-07-05): سلام جای دانلود پیدا نمیشه
Unknown author (2006-07-09): Linux bitches!!!
Unknown author (2006-07-17): سلام باب چيزاي باحال براي دانلود بزارين
Unknown author (2006-07-18): Linux with KDE IS a resource hog, i tried !!! Lot worse than windows...
Linux is a shit, cannot start a program without recompiling it into kernel, i tried !!!
KDE is s**t, because you still have to do everything serious in shell !!!!
Linux is s**t because there are no drivers for new equipment, so Linux is only for those poor, cheap bastards with no money, and no new equipment, get a job - You B***hes !!!!!!!
There are no games for Linux, ok there are, but they usually look like Atari 65XE...!!!!!!
Basically lINUX is F**KING CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Because of one thing: with shitux you spend more time with problems with system then on actual work
Unknown author (2006-08-02): Aren't those Vista icons ripoffs of apple-icons ?
Damn, Microsoft is getting worse by the day.
Good thing there's Linux :D
Quote: "There are no games for Linux"
Linux is not a gamestation but a workstation ;)
So is windows btw :)
Unknown author (2006-08-20): Linux is a shit. Just a free shit.
Unknown author (2006-09-04): Free shit? Idiots, LINUX RULES
Unknown author (2006-09-05): Linux has it use. In my opinion thats only for servers. Otherwise your company would do good to spend its money on windows.
You can work faster in windows, and play better games! What else you need?
Unknown author (2006-09-11): honestly, i dont really understand why any of you care that much. i would rather have a computer that can only display windows classic appearance if it can run oblivion with maxed settings
Unknown author (2006-09-11): (QUOTE)"PLeyava (2006-04-15): Oh please, if Apple is "so good" as some people say it is, then why does LESS than 9% of the WORLDS POPULATION use it? STATS DONT MEAN ANYTHING! Is Christianity better than all other religions just because more people follow it? i didnt think so. the real reason that more people use windows is that a)its cheaper b)its more common c)more games are made for it d) they're already used to using it and are to lazy to try and learn a different system
Unknown author (2006-09-20): I aggree current KDE is a resource HOG. KDE4 should be better.
No games on Linux. I don't know where you have been. But must not have been where I was. Nexuiz own's on Linux. Slowly on Windows XP. Same with a few other games. Nexuiz needs all the ram it can get is hands on. Windows uses to much.
SVG icons work. Png Icons. Is it me or is MS 4 years behind linux at this point. Linux was working on getter rid of the Pixel based Icons for that long.
Problem with Linux its market share is impossiable to telly correctly.
One Survey found if you telly everything you can find Linux can be running a lot higher than expected. 6 to 1 in fact in some cases. 6 linuxs to 1 windows something.
Unknown author (2006-09-26): Every OS has it advantages and disadvantages. Windows is very easy to use and to install. Adding devices like printers, scanners, graphics cards etc is also easy. Suffers from security holes. Linux is secure and good for web servers but a pain in the ass for multimedia and devices, drivers etc. Seems like they just love changing command names between versions.
Unknown author (2006-10-04): linux does rule....
Unknown author (2006-10-09): Linux FTW!
Unknown author (2006-10-22): linux does suck
Unknown author (2006-10-25): The difference between Linux and Windows is that Linux is made for people who can use a computer while Windows is made for those that doesnt(cause 90% of the worlds population wont ever get anything about computers and you get a lot more money from them).
I have nothing against people who uxśe Windows, just dont make me use it, cause I've never seen anything so badly made.
Unknown author (2006-11-14): linux really sucks. good for pros, and for that matter, only for work. Windows rules! No coment for Mac
Unknown author (2006-11-15): I have installed Linux on my pc now, and think it's much better than Win. Win costs a lot of money, Linux is free. Everyone can get the sourcecode, everyone who wants is able to find out, how Linux works. That's why, there aren't big problems/errors with drivers and so on. But it is difficult to use for those, who aren't good at computers. I have been needing lots of time, to learn how to use and configure Linux. But now it seems easy to me. Wait two/three years and Linux is the number one, i'm sure!
Unknown author (2006-11-19): Windows is popular because most computer users are lemmings. They use what everyone else uses and never bother to see just what OS X might have to offer. Will they prefer it? Maybe. Will they prefer Windows? Maybe. But who's gonna know if they never try something different?
Unknown author (2006-11-19): "Linux" is easy if ya use the right Linux... Ubuntu. I set my father-in-law up with it and he's totally clueless about computers, but he has no complaints about Ubuntu. He's quite happy about it and I rarely ever get questions from him.
Unknown author (2006-11-29): it rocks
Unknown author (2006-11-29): i love it
!
Unknown author (2006-11-30): Oh come on!!! LINUX is just a piece of crap!! people who like it, just don't know the advantages, and obviously don't know how to use windows!!
Unknown author (2006-12-03): People, just realise that people don't care about "the sourcecode" or about "it's free". Most people want the operating system that is the standard in offices and at home, so they can use the software and games they know. And that's the reason why Windows dominates and will keep doing so. Linux is far to complicated as soon as you want to change things, the driver situation is ridiculous. And MacOSX is far to expensive because you have to buy some overpriced Mac (PC hardware anyway) with it AND it doesn't have anywhere as much software and games as Windows does. I know, facts hurt if you're on the wrong side, but the truth is the truth.
Unknown author (2006-12-04): I am working both linux and windows somewhat linux is batter because every can undestand esily
Unknown author (2006-12-07): a released core of windows vista kernel size, is not an information for me , but it consumes 128M or more , linux can do more whit 128 or 256M RAM and is more probed than Windows, the initial release of the later have a "slightly" lookin like MacOSX.

wonder if you ever used Linux...

mattie_linux (2006-12-29): hello, this is a great article, thanks!
i have a question: in Vista, as an end-user, can you stretch or resize icons individually? (not in an editor, but just playing around on your desktop/ folders).
thank you
Vlasta (2006-12-29): not individual icons, but you can have different settings in each folder and desktop
Unknown author (2007-01-04): each desktop?
Unknown author (2007-01-25): Duhhh,,, All icons in vista is a XAML file and they're vector based.
Unknown author (2007-02-05): speak english
Unknown author (2007-02-13): gr8
Unknown author (2007-02-27): My Language of Vista will not change from svenski to english what can i do
Vlasta (2007-02-28): Ask Microsoft, this page is about Vista icons.
Unknown author (2007-03-04): Can I replase icons for files (like .avi) to my icon? Whai I must do?
Unknown author (2007-03-26): c'est fantastik mais on peut pas les download
Unknown author (2007-04-20): lol dang i cant do it
Unknown author (2007-05-28): cmon, in Linux you can choose what "features" it has, either by programming them your self or ask a friend in the Linux Community to do it for you. Can you do that in Vista??
Unknown author (2007-05-28): it is waste
Unknown author (2007-07-01): hey thnx man
Unknown author (2007-07-20): all most
Unknown author (2007-07-31): Thanks
Unknown author (2007-08-02): thanks
Unknown author (2007-10-07): thanks
Unknown author (2007-10-27): goooooooooooooooooood
Unknown author (2008-01-01): goooooooooooooooooood
Unknown author (2008-01-06): Thanks for the info. Anyways i think microsoft might have copied this idea from Linux as Gnome for example had this ability before Vista (if i'm not mistaken).
Unknown author (2008-01-07): that means vista is a good product, by using good ideas from other operating systems
Unknown author (2008-01-11): wow, thanks for the info.. really appreciated, I`ve just found another site to get vista icons: http://www.iconshock.com take a look :)
[OMG]Kevinicons (2008-02-03): How you download it?
Unknown author (2008-02-09): so thats a no then
Simba (2008-02-22): COOL
Unknown author (2008-03-12): does it work for vista?
