Testing a new formatting guide page

Published by on June 10th.

Don't worry about this stuff. I just wanna be sure things display properly before I submit an edit to the text formatting page.

Text Formatting (for comments and blogs)

When starting new topics or responding to existing topics, making blog posts or gallery submissions, or just posting a comment, the following formatting rules apply.

Text Formatting

Heading 1
Heading 2
Heading 3
Heading 1

Heading 2

Heading 3

Surround text with two single quotes (not double quotes!) to italicize it.

Italic text

Italic text

Surround text with three single quotes to make it bold.

Bold text

Bold text

You can combine the two and use five single quotes to bold and italicize text.

Bold and italic text

Bold and italic text

Surround text with two underscores to underline it.

__Underline text__

Underline text

Surround text with two hyphens to strike it out.

--Strikeout text--

Strikeout text

Surround text with three hyphens to shrink it to a subtext size.

---Small text---

Small text

Use an asterisk and a space at the start of a line to turn the following text into a bulleted list item.

* Bulleted list item 1
* Bulleted list item 2

Use a pound sign to do the same thing, but with a numbered list.

# Numbered list item 1
# Numbered list item 2
 1. Numbered list item 1
 2. Numbered list item 2

Type four lines in a row on a new line to make a separator.

----

Smileys

Use specific combinations of characters to display a smiley or an emoji.

:-) ;-) :-o 8-) :-D :-( |-) X-(

๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ด ๐Ÿ˜

Make sure you put two spaces in-between smileys so that they display properly. Otherwise, if only one space is used, the next smiley will not display properly.

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

๐Ÿ˜Š :-) ๐Ÿ˜Š :-) ๐Ÿ˜Š

Note: The hyphens are not required to make a smiley. ;)

Paragraph formatting

Leave a space before text in any line to disable formatting and to monospace it.

This text isn't formatted!

If you want to do this within text, surround the text with backquotes.

This is the normal font. `This is monospace.`
__This is formatted.__ `__This isn't.__`

This is the normal font. This is monospace.
This is formatted. This isn't.

Place this set of characters at the start of a line to center text.

>|<Centered text

Centered text

Organizing texts with verical bars (pipe symbols) and hyphens like this will create a table.

|-
|Cell 1A|Cell 1B
|-
|Cell 2A|Cell 2B
Cell 1ACell 1B
Cell 2ACell 2B

Leaving out the first |- will create a table without borders.

|Cell 1A|Cell 1B
|-
|Cell 2A|Cell 2B
Cell 1ACell 1B
Cell 2ACell 2B

Tables can also be centered.

|-
>|<|cell 1A|cell 1B
|-
|cell 2A|cell 2B
cell 1Acell 1B
cell 2Acell 2B

Be sure to hit enter twice after a table; If you don't, the following text will be displayed as a cell!

Links, Hyperlinks, and Media

If you're linking to an external page, you'll need to use single square brackets.
Hyperlink text is separated from the link by a single space. No need to worry about extra symbols.

Homepage to the DuckDuckGo search engine

You can use special references to link pages on the rw-designer.com domain, though they're formatted a bit differently.
Place the link before the pipe symbol, the text after the pipe symbol, and be sure to surround it with double square brackets.

Images

You can only use images from the rw-designer.com domain.

If you want to add your own images, follow these steps:

* You may upload other files if you wish, so long as they fit under 1MB
* Make sure the filename doesn't have spaces, or it will not upload properly!

Your image is then saved in an "rsrc" directory in the blog editor.
Click on the image you uploaded to insert the format code into the text box.
You may use that format code in any comment, blog post or cursor/icon set description to display that image.

You may also add an image while typing a comment by clicking on the paperclip button.

rsrc/einstein-illustration.png image

You may add alt text by adding a pipe symbol for cases where the image cannot be displayed.

Using vector layers in RWPaint

If the image you are using is too big, you can define a minimum width and height by adding numbers surrounded by brackets just between image and the colon.

[[image[256]:rsrc/einstein-illustration.png]]

rsrc/einstein-illustration.png image

You may also use an auto-generated thumbnail.

thumb:rsth/einstein-illustration.png

Cursor/Icon Thumbnails

You may display a cursor or icon by using its ID, which can be found in the link to such cursor.

cursor:179402

cursor-179402

icon:25388

icon-25388

Cursor thumbnails are usually not animated. If you want to show it animated, replace cursor: with image:cursor-view/ and add .png to the end.

cursor-view/179402.png image

You can also display the larger sizes by adding a hyphen and a number to the end of the filename.

cursor-view/179402-48.png image cursor-view/179402-64.png image

At the moment, 32x32, 48x48 and 64x64 are the only sizes available.

Icon thumbnails also only display as 32x32 images. Depending on what resolutions the icon supports, you can use that number with it.
The first number is the ID, the second and third are the width and height, and the fourth is the color depth; 32 means smooth edges, 8 means 256 colors, and 4 means 16 colors.

Videos

Videos must be uploaded to YouTube with an associating account. You can copy the video's ID by finding it after the watch?v= text.
You must also choose the resolution you want the video to display as. Don't go overboard! 640x385 is recommended for most cases.
Don't go overboard with this feature; video embeds can be quite laggy on most devices!
