This tool does not open cursor files. You need to download them to your computer first and then right-click on them.

It doesn't work for .ani files...

It may not work if your file association for .ani files are wrong. The cursor changer does not overwrite them, because it would disrupt you current application assigned to open .ani. If you fix the association, reinstall the cursor changes and it should start working.

Woah! Love it! This really helps me out! I'm tired of having to go to the control panel and apply a whole 15 cursors I just downloaded from this site. But now I can open .crs files!! Yay!! It may LOOK simple, but if it was YOU coding it, it would be harder than you thought.

P.S. Is this a process that works in the background of your computer?

Not exactly, Windows Explorer loads it as an extension when you first use it (right-click on .cur, .ani, .crs file). It can be unloaded after it is used, but when that happens depends on Explorer.

Firstly, I'm using Vista and the option doesn't appear in the menu.

I accidentally changed the default program to open the cursors and now I can't see the preview!!! How can I solve this? Please, somebody help!!!

It works in Vista too, but after you have changed your file associations, you need to re-install the cursor changer.

To fix your previews, try using the application you have used to change the default program and revert back. If there is no such option, you would need to do the change manually in registry or you can install RealWorld Cursor Editor and then associate .cur and .ani file with it from the Tools menu.

@The_Last_Anonymous_Here Just install it, right click on the .ani or .cur file and will appear a new drop down menu with the option to change to that cursor.
Go to it and select the cursor you would like.
Also, check the compatibility of windows versions shown here.

Except it does work. Use 64-bit edition on 64-bit Windows and make sure your .cur and .ani file association "standard".

With RW Cursor Editor You Can Change The Cursor In 1 Second.
Press 'Cursor' And Then 'Use Current For' And Then Press On The One You Want The Cursor Change Into.

So what if you use window 7 it works anyways when I use it, just go to the start menu find control panel then go small icons then choose mouse. After you choose mouse you choose the different cursors there and you replace them with the one's you download here. But you download sets in a zip file so you extract them to somewhere you know it will be then do the control panel thing.

what you have got to do is press download go into mouse in the arrow tool for windows 10 and 8.1 but if you on below download it and go in control panel and go into mouse press browse and find you mouse and click it and then click apply

For windows 10 go into settings and click on the personalisation. when you go into that go into themes then on related settings it has "Mouse pointer settings" (if not try to search that) a small window comes up click on the pointers tab thing and you should be able to figure it out from there

If you want to change on a Windows 10 you right click on desktop then click personalize, themes, mouse pointer settings, and double click on the original cursor you want to change then choose the file you downloaded the .cur to. Select the cursor and click apply then close. You should have a functional cursor.

Changing the cursor on windows 10 is as above, but the problem is when you restart your computer it changes back to the system cursor.

This needs updating. Users here are complaining about 3 reasons:

1. the cursor reverts to original when restarted
2. does not support .ani files
3. not available for other platforms (i.e. MacOS)

What is the point of having a piece of software for changing your cursors? You can change cursor sets by using the mouse settings from the operating system.

Hi all, tested it on my machine running Windows 10, and it does seem to be working as of 19/12/2020, I used the 64-bit version. If the 32-bit version doesn't work on your system, then try the 64-bit version (most machines these days would be 64-bit, so I'd recommend trying that first, and try the 32-bit one if 64-bit one doesn't work for you).

It should work on Windows XP all the way through to Windows 10, which is, of course, inclusive of Windows 8(.1), so yes it works in Windows 8.

As for ChromeBooks, I don't think that it'd work on any sort of Chromebook, Acer or otherwise, that's assuming you'd even be able to get it to install in the first place, due to how heavily locked down they are, and the fact that they don't run Windows.

You can't use it on a school Chromebook. Assuming that yours is the same as mine, your district limits what you can download and the programs you use. For example, I can't even apply a background to my Chromebook. The person above who responded was correct that Chromebooks are heavily locked down and you may not even be able to get it to install in the first place. Talk to your principal about personalization as I'm fairly certain there's a Chrome extension in the Chrome webstore you could use in place of it.

@YoshGamer 36 if you have windows 10 you don't need this app, you can get to the panel by just typing "change how the mouse pointer looks when it's moving". Then go to the 'Pointers' tab and browse for the wanted cursor file( which you can download on this site).

Download the 64 bit version, install the program to C:\Program Files (x86)\ and the program folder HAS TO BE \RealWorld\ and not whatever name it assigns it

then, and ONLY then, it works with schema files
